SEKPA has been helping people affected by kidney disease for over 40 years. Our support is free of charge and has provided assistance to many patients and their families.

We provide practical, emotional and financial support to kidney patients on low income

To purchase medical equipment required for Home Dialysis that is not covered by the trust e.g. sheds, storage etc.

One off hardship payments towards domestic bills or Household items,

Travel expenses – for a long journey not covered by your unit. (although not ongoing
dialysis),
Other support:

Assist in welfare; help to connect with professionals who offer specialist support,

Act as a bridge between patients and renal units.

Access to Kidney Beam: an online exercise program to promote wellbeing for all
renal patients.

Registration and hotel fees enabling Sussex patients to attend the British Transplant Games

Support to young patients to attend a football tournament,

Hotel accommodation for parents of a young transplant patient.

Hardship support; replacing essential household appliances,

Contributing toward mobility aids
General Support:

Refurbishment of quiet and day rooms (not available since Covid, but to be
restored)

Portable suitcase to carry dialysis machine for travel

Printing and posting newsletters to all registered members, dialysis members and
SKU.
Who can apply for SEKPA Support
SEKPA provide financial support to low-income families who are significantly impacted by
kidney disease to the extent that it affects health and well-being.
In order to apply to support you must be:

A legal resident of the UK
-
Be over 18 years of age or have a parent or legal guardian apply on your behalf,
-
Have a UK bank account and can provide a summary of your household finances,
-
Have support of a healthcare professional referrer. (This can be your renal welfare
officer, consultant or a member of your kidney team).
If you do not have this support, please contact us directly to discuss how we may be able to help.
Whilst we can’t guarantee every application, we will always do our best to help where we
can.
